"Several of my friends nearby are small farmers, and I enjoy bringing my guests for visits with goats, chickens, and cows in my rural home town. It was on one of these visits that I photographed two cows close-up, as they inspected me at the pasture gate. This reference photo became my inspiration for a colorful watercolor painting.
I've painted Eat Chicken with a limited palette of the three primary colors, using Winsor & Newton brand Antwerp Blue, Winsor Red, and Winsor Yellow. These are specifically chosen because they mix well together into bright secondary colors, rather than into browns or greys. I aimed to focus the most attention on the cow on the left, thus painting his face (it's actually a steer, not a female), with the most contrast in values and with the most detail. The eyes draw the viewer in!"
